They are combined to five stages as a complete drilling mud system.Drilling mud shale shaker is used to separate the big solids with diameter above 75μm, and 45~74μm for desander, and 15~44μm for desilter. Sometimes desander & desilter are combined as high efficient mud cleaner. When air enters into the drilling fluids, vacuum degasser is used to separate the air. If no air in the mud, the degasser would work as a big agitator. All these equipments are mounted on the top of the mud tank. After separating the solids, the clean mud would be pumped into the borehole again.
Vacuum degasser ranks as the second stage of solids control system. The drilling mud that are separated by the first stage device — shale shaker flows into the setting compartment of the mud tank. The drilled cuttings would settle into the setting pit, and the drilling fluids would flow over and into the second compartment. A sand pump would be used to pump the drilling mud from the second compartment up to the vacuum degasser, The drilling mud enters into the vacuum tank through the feeding pipe, and rotates by the rotor of the degasser, by the effect of centrifugal force, the drilling fluids would be threw to the inner wall of the vacuum tank, and the gases that migrate into the mud would be separated from the mud. Vacuum layer would be generated by the vacuum pump that are mounted on the skid of degasser, so the gases that are separated would be pumped out to the water-gas separator by the vacuum pump and be discharged through the relief linepipe and finally be flared by the electrical ignition device at a place that are 60 to 80 meters away from the drilling rig.
The degassing machine is used to clean up the gas in the drilling fluid, ensuring the performance of drilling fluid relatively stable and the proper functioning of swirler. It is the second level equipment in solid control system, and it will be set between shale shaker and drilling mud cleaner/desander.
