Drilling Fluid Dewatering System

In zero discharge situations, The Drilling fluid dewatering system plays an important role in closed-loop systems. Dewatering unit can remove almost all colloidal particles,producting nearly clear water by using chemical treatment,a manifold system and a decanter centrifuge. Dewatering system can significantly reduce water-hauling,drilling fluid, and disposal cost by recycling of the fluid phase.

Colloidal-size particles build up in the drilling fluid system,require dilution which can create excessive fluid volumes. These ultra-fine particles,less than 5 to 7 microns in size, can not be removed via decanter centrifuge alone.The excess waste volumes created by dilution increased the drilling costs and increase environmental liability.

A complete drilling fluid dewatering system usually consisted of some tanks,like Mix tank, Coagulant tank, Manifold system, Metering system,dosing system, feed pump,centrifuge.

Dewatering Process:

Decanter Centrifuge

1) Dilution
If needed, dilution water is added. some fluids have extremely high concentrations of fine solids and need more free water for proper treatment.

2)Coagulation
by adding coagulants to reduce the electrostatic charge of the particles and enable them to stick or bond together when they make contact with each other.

3)Flocculation
By adding special polymer flocculant to the coagulated fluid. The polymer forms bridges between the coagulated particles,enabling them to physically bond together into larger particles.

4)Centrifugation
The final step in the dewatering process is the removal of the flocculated solids with a high speed decanter centrifuge to generate clear water.

Vertical Cuttings Dryer Structure Features:

1) In the design process of CD Vertical cuttings dryer, user maintenance is taken into full consideration. All wearing parts are easily removable and replace, belt can also be replaced without disassembling the gear box, and the gear box part can easily be removed.

Drilling Mud 5 Stages Solids Control System

First stage of solids control

Shale shaker is widely known as a solids control equipments used in drilling projects. It is a very basic equipment that could separate the drilling cutting more than 250 microns by fine mesh screens. During this stage, actually, the solids control and purification happens at the same time. Just as its name implies, solids control is separate the solids from the fluids, while the drilling cutting and other large size impurities being separated, the drilling mud is purified.

Second stage of solids control

A vacuum degasser could be functioned as the second stage purification equipments. During this stage, there is no solids separated from the drilling mud, just the invasive air is removed. Why must remove the air from the drilling mud? Invaded air could reduce the specific gravity of the mud and make the centrifugal pump work at low efficiency.

Third stage of solids control

After treated by vacuum degasser, drilling mud is feeded in to desander by centrifugal pump. The main parts of 1 set desander are the hydrocyclones. Desander cone could separate the solid particles with size of 45 microns.
Fourth stage of solids control

Same working principle with desander, desilter cones separate the particles of 16 microns. Desander differs desilter by the size of hydrocyclone.

OGEM Drilling Mud Decanter Centrifuge Is Ideal Choice Solids Control

A centrifuge is a piece of equipment, generally driven by an electric motor (some older models were spun by hand), that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis, applying a force perpendicular to the axis. A centrifuge is also used to separate the components of blood in blood banks. The centrifuge works using the sedimentation principle, where the centripetal acceleration causes denser substances to separate out along the radial direction (the bottom of the tube). By the same token lighter objects will tend to move to the top (of the tube; in the rotating picture, move to the center).
A drilling mud decanter centrifuge works by spinning a vessel containing the material to be
separated at high speed. It is very much like the rides at the fairground that rotate.
You have to lean towards the center to overcome the force caused by the rotation. In fact, some rides are designed specifically to press your body against a back support. The decanter centrifuge spins at very high speeds and pushes the ‘heavy phase’, usually the solids, to the outside of the vessel, just as you would see in the clear flask standing on the bench top.

Decanter Centrifuge is the key equipment of dealing with the super fine hazardous solid phase. Decanting centrifuge can depart and recycle the solid phase larger than 5µm, recover the density of drilling fluid quickly and increase the drilling speed. Decanter centrifuge is the ideal oilfield drilling fluid purified equipment.
The drilling mud decanter centrifuge is built around a slender cylindrical bowl with a relatively large length/diameter ratio and a conical end. This bowl rotates at speeds of up to 4000 rpm (according to model), producing centrifugal force of anywhere from 300 to 3130 G. The other key components include a main drive motor, heavy-duty gearbox, back drive motor and control panel. The machine has suitability for different well drilling procedure and high process capacity. It can separate out the ultra micro harmful solid-state grains in the drilling mud. At the same time, the transporter blade in this machine is inlaid with hard alloy block that elongates its service life considerably.

OGEM Drilling Mud Cleaner Is A Practical Equipment for Drilling Mud System

A mud cleaner is a combination of desanders and/or desilters mounted over a shaker with a fine mesh screen. A mud is fed to the inlet of the hydrocyclone (desander and/or desilter) to separate particles and the underflow passes to the fine screen mesh where in particles larger than barite are discarded and thrown away. In most drilling operations, a mud cleaner is installed in its mud systems. It is usually located in a mud tank in the same location as with the desilters.
The purpose of the mud cleaner is to remove drilled solids larger than barite. Solids larger than 74-105 micrometres can be removed by the mud cleaner before the viscosity builds up. Mud cleaner can effectively control weighted drilling fluid solid content. Prevent differential pressure sticking, adhesion stuck drill accident, reduce the drill string and the filter cake thichness on bond issues.
Compared with the traditional desander and desilter, mud cleaner is the upgrade product. It belongs the second or third level solids control equipment in the drilling fluid solids control systems, it is the complex of hydrocyclone desander, hydrocyclone desilter and the shale shaker.
