Mud gas separator is a dedicated device for primary degassing of gas cut mud. It is mainly used for removal of big bubbles whose diameter is larger than φ3 to φ25mm in gas cut drilling fluid. The big bubbles make the density and viscosity of drilling fluid have big deviation and can’t meet the needs of drilling. If gas cut is serious, it may cause well kick even blowout.
Mud gas separator lets the gas cut mud flow into the separator from the side, along the pipeline and land on the specially designed pulp receiving umbrella, the collision make the area of mud leaking increase, the bubbles expands and rupture under atmospheric conditions. The free gas discharge through the discharge pipe at the top of mud gas separator (the discharge pipe length shall not be less than 50 meters) and lead to the safe area, the electronic flare ignition device will ignite gas.
The degassing drilling fluid discharge into the entrance of mud shaker or distributor of shale shaker.
