Performance of Desander and Desilter in Solids Control System

The desander, desilter in solid control system are after shale shaker, their primary use is through the shale shaker and eliminate more tiny solid particles mixed in drilling fluids treatment.

The core components of desander and desilter - hydrocyclone is solid-liquid separation equipment according to the design of the centrifugal sedimentation separation principle, its separation ability for solid phase is associated with structure parameters, their plasma pressure and mud properties. Inner diameter of hydroclones, solid particles can be separated more fine.

Customarily, the diameter greater than 150 mm, only can separate hydrocyclone coarse sand as the desander, inner diameter of 150 to 70, the cyclone can separate fine solid particles into the mud removing device. Hydrocyclone diameter, inlet size and inlet pipe shape, circulation, overflow size and overflow tube insertion depth, underflow size are important factors influencing the working characteristics of swirl.

Handling capacity of hydrocyclone and its diameter is proportional to the square of the overflow of solid particles, with diameter increases. An overflow pipe is inserted too deep or too low will cause the overflow of solid particle size increases. Underflow size is too large or too small to underflow discharge is disadvantage. At present, the handling capacity of desander and desilter is roughly the same, about 150 ~ 200m3/h,and the solid phase separation ability is mainly determined by the diameter of hydrocyclone.
