THE INTRODUCTION OF HYDROCYCLONE DESANDER
Desanders and desilters are solid control equipment with a set of hydrocyclones that separate sand and silt from the drilling fluids in drilling rigs. Desanders are installed on top of the mud tank following the shale shaker and the degasser, but before the desilter. Desander removes the abrasive solids from the drilling fluids which cannot be removed by shakers. Normally the solids diameter for desander to be separated would be 45~74μm, and 15~44μm for desilter.
A centrifugal pump is used to pump the drilling fluids from mud tank into the set of hydrocyclones.
WHAT HYDROCYCLONE DESANDER USED FOR
Desanders are used to separate sand which is mixed with drilling muds. During drilling process mud is being poured as excavation is getting deeper, this mud also mixes with soil, thus being contaminated with sand and silt, in such a way, that when excavation is finished, it is necessary to recyle mud in order to separate sand from mud and get a clean mud that will be used in next excavations. Each country establishes its own regulations on maximum allowed sand content in drilling mud before concreting operation is carried out, in order to prevent concrete contamination with sand and soil, and Desanders are used for this purpose.
HYDROCYCLONE DESANDER IN SOLID CONTROL
Desanders have no moving parts. The
larger the internal diameter of the desander is, the greater the amount of
drilling fluids it is able to process and the larger the size of the solids
removed. A desander with a ({{convert|10|in|mm}} cone) is able to remove 50% of
solids within the 40-50 μm (micrometre) range at a flow rate of {{convert|500|USgal/min|L/s}},
whilea desilter
({{convert|4|in|mm}} Cone) is able to
remove 50% of solids within the 15-20 μm range at a flow rate of
{{convert|60|USgal/min|L/s}}. Micro-fine separators are able to remove 50% of
solids within the 10-15 μm range at a flow rate of
{{convert|15|USgal/min|L/s}}. A desander is typically positioned next-to-last
in the arrangement of [[solids control]] equipment, with a decanter
[[centrifuge]] as the subsequent processing unit. Desanders are preceded by gas
busters, gumbo removal equipment (if utilized), [[shale shaker]], [[mud
cleaner]] (if utilized) and a vacuum degasser. Desanders are widely used in
oilfield drilling.
HOW TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN A HYDROCYCLONE DESANDER
The de-sander is a solid control
equipment of second stage configured in the solid phase controlling system of
drilling fluid, with a composite unit rotational de-sander and vibrating sieve.
These instructions mainly deal with the rotational de-sander. The rotational
de-sander is designed according to principle of granule settlement and the
drilling fluid rotationally enters along the inner wall of the swirler through
pressure and velocity generated by a sand pump to a small extent. The thicker
granules are going down in spiral mode along the inner wall of swirler under
effect of centrifugal force and gravity, and discharged from the bottom exit.
The discharged granules are separated on the close-mesh sieve, with the rest of
the medium going up in a spiral mode through the swirler to enter into the
third separating plant from the overflow mouth for further decontaminating.
