Different mud system require different mud tanks. Different mud tanks decided by actual well drilling conditions also client’s preferance. Usually there will be rectangle mud tanks since the convenient transportation and ideal configuration on equipments position. So the tank capacity is an important issue on total system

The tank design
The mud tank, as we know, there is rectangle shape tank in drilling mud processing system. While there is also tanks for oil, etc. And the tank in mud system is considered as the medium of storage and processing platform. The mud capacity is also decided by compartment division, and the equipment dimension.
The tank can be designed to be many compartments according to processing stage and different purpose. If client just require mixing tank and we can make it only one compartment or two compartment.

Calculating tank capacity
We need to calculate mud tank capacity as inner net capacity. It should exclude centrifugal pump skid on either end or under shale shaker compartment. Just take following tanks as example:
This 200GPM HDD mud system consists shale shaker, desilter, centrifugal pump, jet mud mixer and mud holds mud tank longs 7m. Jet mud mixer and centrifugal pump on one skid, while the skid is 2m. Then there is still about 200mm length as the other side skid. So the net length of tank is 4.8m. How about the width?
Generally, in order to give clients convenient transportation for sea shipment we design it as 2.3m in total. However there is about 0.15~0.2m width for flanges. The net width will be 2.1m. The height is1.85m. There is base heighs 0.2m, top frame heighs 0.15m so the tank net height is 1.5m. The mud tank total capacity can be 15CBM more or less.

Above calculation way is one of common method on tank capacity calculation. The suggestion is just reference for you to choose appropriate mud container and mud system
