Agitation Equipment for Solids Control

The purpose of drilling fluidsrecyclying system is to process drilling mudbefore it is pumped down to the borehole.  The undesirable drilled-solids must be romoved after they are brought to the surface of the well. and  to maintain the property of drilling fluid, some additive agents of fluids, such as bentonite (gel), barite, lost circulation material, etc. also need to be added to the fluid and agitated rapidely to disperse thoroughly. All these would be accomplished by the solids control equipment. In majority of solids control system ,  agitation equipment must be used to suspend the solids in the drilling fluid. There are two devices that can do this: mechanical agitator, and mud gun.

OGEM Horizontally Mounted Agitator
As we stated in the previous article that mechanical agitators are extensively mounted on the top of  mud tank. They are normally consist of drive motor, geared reducer ( or called geared box), gearbox output shaft, and impeller(s). Most mechanical agitator are drived by electric motors. These motors must be explosion-proof duty, and mounted horizontally or vertically. Motors may be coupled to or direct-face mounted to the gear reducer which then drives the impeller shaft. Impellers are mounted on the shaft off the specific distance of the mud tankbottom to obtain required mud moving.

OGEM Agitator Impellers
The blades of impellers can be welded vertically on the hub which then to be mounted on the shaft. The blades can also have an angle with shaft , typically 45°~ 60°.  Or it can be contour blades weled to the hub and mounted to shaft. Different angle of blades would generate different track of mud moving. When one impeller is used alone on the mud tank, to agitator the drilling fluid thoroughly, the tank should not be deeper than 6ft (1.83m), while if the tank is deeper than 6ft, two or more impellers should be used to agitate drilling fluid, and each impeller should be mounted on the shaft specifically.
