Mud Agitator & Mud Gun

In oil & gas exploration, drilled solids must be carried to the surface of the well by the drilling fluids and be separated by appropriate solids control system. In mud tank, as the flowing speed reduces, the solids may recipite to the bottom of the mud tank. This may reduce the working efficiency of the solids control system. Thus, agitation devices are mounted on the top of mud tankto agitate the drilling fluids to suspend the solids phases, and improve the mud recycling system performance. Agitation devices include mechanical agitator & drilling fluids gun, both of which have similar function, but different properties and location.

Mud agitator is consist of electrical motor, reducer, shaft & impeller. The driving motor & reducer box are mounted on the agitator base, while the shaft inserts into the mud tank, and the impellers which normally have three or four blades are equipped at the other end of the shaft. When the impellers rotate by the electrical motor, the drilling fluids would also move. This mechanical driving agitator has good performance in big & deep mud tank. But the disadvantage of this agitator is that there would exist some bland area that agitator can not move the fluids in these areas.
In this areas, drilling fluids gun, or sometimes called mud gun, would be also used. High pressed water or mud are sprayed to the bland areas to push the drilling fluids moving, so that the solids would also can not precipitate. The pressure of the mud gun is from the drilling pump, while the mud in the gun would come from recycling mud tank, and can also from reserving tank or mixing tank. This would make the drilling fluids to move from one tank to another, while agitator do not have this function.
