There are many way to control the borehole pressure. The drilling fluidplays an important role to balance the pressure. When the drilling workers realize by reading the pressure meter in the drilling room that the underground pressure is increasing, some additive agent such as weighting agent may be added into the drilling fluid which then go into the well to press the gas underground. If it does not work, the underground pressure can also be released through the chock manifold. If the underground pressure still can not be controlled, then blowout preventor (BOP) would be used, by cuting the casing, and sealing the well head.
The harmful gas that come through the chock manifold would be lead to a safety point away fron the drilling rigby the relief pipeline. The safety distance of relielf pipeline normly is 50 to 100 meter away from the drilling rig.
