Mud Mixer for Solids Control

As we all know that drilling fluids are used in the drilling process to keep the drill bit cool & carry the down hole drilling cuttings up to the surface of the well. To maintain the specified viscosity and density of the drilling fluids, some drilling fluids agents such as barite, bentonite, etc. must be added into the fluids in the drilling process. Previously centrifuge are used to add these fluids agents into the drilling fluids, but now mud mixer or some called mud hopper are used specially to complete the adding processing in the solids control system.

Mud Mixer is composed of single mixer & double mixer. The electrical motor drives the drilling fluids flowing in the pipeline, and fluids agents are added through the hopper into the drilling fluids. It enhances the shearing rate to the fluids agents, and reduce the viscosity time of the drilling fluids.

Below is the illustration of mud hopper.  The design of mud hopper is with venturi & jet. When the drilling fluids flow through the jet, the pressure of venturi would be lower than the standard air pressure, so the drilling fluids agents in the hopper would enter into the venturi automatically, and dissolve into the fluids with the fluids flowing.
