Centrifugal Pump for Solids Control

As discussed previously that centrifugal pump is the circulation power source of the solids control system. They are like a heart for the people, to suck and pump the drilling fluids to all the solid control equipment mounted on the top of the mud tank. Without centrifugal pumps, the drilling fluids in the mud tank would be actionless, and the solids that are carried out from the borehole would not be separated.

Centrifugal pumps  are often considered as Kinetic energy machines. The rotatory impeller drives the fluids that enter into the pump rotating with high speed, transfering its Kinetic energy onto the fluids, so that the drilling fluids can move rapidly in the solids control system. That is why solids control system is also called circulation system.

 A complete centrifugal pump is consist of motor and pump head, while the pump head is mainly consist of volute casing, impeller & shaft, etc.  When the fluids flow into the suction eye of impeller, through the impeller rotatory, effected by the centrifugal force, it would be pushed towards to the valute casing, and the centrifugal force on the drilling fluids would also be increasing, and is discharged to the destination space. Thus, the pressure at the impeller suction eye would be reduced, which would leads more fluids flowing into the pump.
